Plaza de Armas is the center of Santiag, Chile. This is where Santiago began, the heart of the city. Here one can see the first buildings that occupied the land when the Spaniards came here hundreds of years ago. These buildings are the Metropolitan Cathedral, The Royal Palace now a historic museum, and an historic post office there. Now a days those buildings still stand, but they're surrounded by a lot of green space and people. This place is a popular tourist location for visitors to learn the history of the city. Due to this reason there are a lot restaurants, local stands, and tour guides. But besides this there is a lot to do in Plaza de Armas and its surrounding areas.
About four blocks away is the Palacio de la Moneda. La Moneda, as it's typically called, is the seat of the president and it also houses its three cabinets. La Moneda is an incredible size taking up an entire city block. Besides being so big above ground, there is a whole cultural center underground. This center is home to a couple museums/exhibits and multiple workshops. From La Moneda one can walk to el Cerro de Santa Lucia. This big hill over looks most of Santiago. In the colonial times it served as a fortress to see coming attackers and invaders. Today, the building itself can be reserved to host parties and galas. The rest of the hill can be accessed via foot and at the very top of the hill there's a viewing spot that a lot of people enjoy going to. Overall if one finds themselves in the center. There is a lot that they can do in the surrounding area.
