I have been away for three months from my home, family, and friends. The distance separated me from what was my norm, but with time my norm began to change and adapt to the Chilean norm. There are a couple challenges that face me when in the future when I come back. One of these challenges is the greeting. In Chile, when one entered a room one would greet everyone with a hug and kiss on the cheek even if one didn't know who they were greeting. At first I knew this is how male to female friends/family greet but I didn't know that's how EVERYONE greeted, both male and female this took time for me to get used to. Now I fear that my habit of greeting everyone like that will make some people uncomfortable. I conscious will try to abstain from this, but I fear that I may out of habit greet someone in this way. Another challenge I face is catching up with my friends' and family's lives. I have most likely missed out on various memories and experience that they have had that could of possibly have changed them. The challenge I face is reconnecting and reentering their lives. So I can begin to understand them again and be back where we used to be at. Another challenge is coping with all the stress I have while I am in the States regarding, school, financial situation, and AFROTC. I need to get back to my old routine and begin to mentally prepare myself for the stress that I may experience in the future. Despite these challenges I am eager to return to share my knowledge that I have gained and to also share my stories and memories.
